SOCIAL

Why Noam Chomsky is Important

Noam Chomsky is a linguist who worked for years at MIT. He also has lectured on how language is used by the elite in the United States to justify and entice us into adventures. Some of these adventures might cause us to be slightly better off than we were before we embarked on the adventure, but the elite always make great gains. We need to read anything that Chomsky has written or listen to his many lectures. Chomsky teaches us how to understand the messages that are right in front of us. Find Chomsky and learn from him.

Power Question #37
What is you favorite Noam Chomsky book or lecture?

We Need Greater Goals

We set goals for ourselves because we are told that adults are supposed to set goals. I have always thought that it would be better to just live, but I tolerate this goal oriented living because my society has embraced it. I have come to notice that most of set minor goals and expect major outcomes. Some people use the attainment of 1 million dollars as their goal. Others want to own property and have a spouse with children. Our goals should be greater than the ordinary goals that so many have. Instead of personal economic wealth, we should work to maintain the resources that sustain us. Instead of ownership and immediate family, we should create communities that support our souls. If you want to be goal oriented the least you can do is set great goals for yours and you.

Power Question #38
What are your goals for 2012?

THE ARTS

The Adjustment Bureau

The movie The Adjustment Bureau is one that you must see if you want to improve your mind. The movie gives the key to raising your conscious mind. The main character (Matt Damon) runs through a higher realm with his woman (feminine side). He runs through the library (knowledge), up the spiraling stairs (spine), and to the roof top (awareness). It there where the main character changes the direction of his life from the one made for him by higher entities to the direction that he wants. Watch all of the scenes and listen carefully. The Adjustment Bureau is full of information.

 Power Question #39
What line of knowledge are you studying right now?

Porgy and Bess

The play Porgy and Bess was an excellent experience. The music was well sung and the acting was worthy of tony nominations. The two good concepts covered in Porgy and Bess. One is the concept of community. We need to move more in the direction of doing for each other with each other again. The other important concept is African male and female love. Porgy does an extraordinary amount to love Bess and she loves him. This alone would be enough for me to experience Porgy and Bess, but the play has much more for you to enjoy.

Power Question #40
What is your favorite play?

POLITICS

Keep NYCHA Public

When my family first moved to the Marcus Garvey Housing project I was terrified. The building was 15 stories high. The people were violent toward each other as well as themselves. Yes it was a hard life, but the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) gave me a stable home. Until the point that we moved into a NYCHA building we had been homeless multiple times and I was only twelve years old at the time. The apartment that we were put into had 5 bedrooms, so I obtained my own room for the first time in my life. With the stability and personal space I was able to graduate from community college while becoming a scholar. Now they want destroy NYCHA by handing it over to private corporations. Poor people are losing their housing which causes instability. The choices are simple. You can continue to privatize NYCHA and destabilize New York City or you can keep NYCHA public and give more people a chance to rise out of poverty.

Power Question #41
Are projects helpful?

SPORTS

Play Something

Sure we watched sports all of the time. We loved basketball and football. The best part about watching the games was trying to repeat the moves that we saw on television. The only health problems that we ever had were the scrapes and bruises from clapping the back boards or the tackles on tar. We now live in a different world, a world where play and watching sports has merged. Now young, and people who refuse to grow up, play sports on realistic video games with complex controlling devices. The only benefit to this kind of play is good hand eye coordination. Many people blame these video games for the increase in obesity, but there are many factors to our obesity problems. The larger concern should be the brains of the generation that grew up on video games as a form of play. As we ponder the minds of the video game generation, we should encourage everyone to play more outside of their homes.

Power Question #42
What kind of sports do you play on a regular basis?
