Socrates As A Model

You are wrong if you believe that by killing people you will prevent anyone from reproaching you for not living in the right way. To escape such tests is neither possible nor good, but it is best and easiest not to discredit others but to prepare oneself to be as good as possible - Socrates (The Apology. Plato)

There are many templates that one could use as a foundation for good leadership. I pulled out Socrates because he is one of my favorites and he is well known to both eastern and western citizens. Imagine if a leader lived by Socrates' standards. The politicians would say let us pass the best laws that we possibly can, not what they were taught as children, paid to pass by wealthy elite, or what a minority of passionate constituents pressured them into. The professors would teach everything that they know, not what they think would get them tenure, or make their classes more popular with the students. The clergy would study their religious texts continuously in order to help people use spiritual teachings, not confuse people, not reduce spiritual teachings to entertainment, or become obsessed with tithes. Oh what a world that would be.
