I have been seeing
more food pantries springing up in small churches. People, beaten down by
poverty, line up to get bags of food from these church pantries. You can get
juice, processed foods, and meats from these small churches. It reminds me of the food pantries in the
1980’s where I was on those lines. Back then it was cheese and peanut butter in
white cans that we took away. Today the crowd takes away better looking food.
What bothers me is no asks where this food is coming from. I see multiple small store front churches
giving away large quantities of food. Many of these churches hardly have any
members so how did they get the connections necessary to distribute this food?
Why does a system hell bent on destroying the people on these pantry lines care
about our hunger? If the health of our neighbors begins to break down, we will
know what these food pantries were really about.
