Sermon In The Mount

Timothy Smyth sat behind his mentor Dr. P.T. Brown this Sunday. Brown was preaching hard and in mid cadence when Timothy snapped out of his day dream. Timothy had heard so many sermons from Dr. Brown that what he said at the pulpit was old hat. He stayed behind Brown for what he learned in the off hours. Timothy often felt annoyed that the large congregation at Calvary Baptist Church had reduced Dr. Brown to a master hype man. Timothy loved Jesus as well as the teachings that he had given the world, but did not look forward to standing in the pulpit of a church of his own. Every time that Dr. Brown asked Timothy about his future he would give an excuse. First there was the Masters degree in theology. After Timothy graduated there was the fact that the congregation has 4,000 members and there was so much work to do. This Sunday would be Timothy’s last day on the sideline of the church world.
